Take a pen and a piece of paper. Set a timer or count for 30 seconds. Now, without thinking, move your pen around the page, let it cross over other lines, perhaps go right to the edge, back to the middle. There is no right or wrong answer.
After 30 seconds stop and look. Can you see anything in the lines you have created? The start of a character’s face perhaps? The beginnings of a home/a window/a door? Use other pens to add to your drawing.
Then start by just writing 10 words to describe what you have drawn. For example, ‘A window into an elf’s home in the magical woods.’ Or ‘A giant stares through the twisted branches of the trees’.
If you feel inspired, you may then make this into a poem, a story, or a letter. The choice is yours!
